Forest certification center (FCC) was founded in 1999. FCC is non-commercial partnership that unites leading organizations of the Far East and widely famous experts and scientists that deal with the issues of conservation of forest biodiversity and civilized use of forest resources. FCC was founded by the following organizations: Far Eastern Forest Research Institute (DalNIILKH), Far Eastern Association for the use of non-timber forest products, Regional Khabarovsk wildlife foundation etc.
Activities of FCC from the moment of its foundation assist to development of voluntary forest certification in the Russian Far East, and helps improving methods of forest management and forest use.
In the Far East FCC is the only non-governmental institutional structure that conducts ecological audits of forest complex companies and their preparation for recognized international certification systems (FSC, PEFC, ISO- 9001; 14001, VLTP).
Geography of business contacts of FCC are not limited by the Far Eastern region. FCC’s experts participated in certification and “due diligence” audits in Ukraine, Sverdlovskaya and Vologodskaya oblast, Altaiskiy krai, Komi republic etc.
FCC actively develops international contacts primarily with leading companies that deal with verification, audit, and certification of services and products of forest complex.
Among partners of FCC in implemented projects there are such organisations as USAID, Winrock International, WWF, SGS (Geneva), SGS Environmental Services (Netherlands), Branan (Moscow), Soil Association (UK).
FCC actively participates in educational activities. In 2003 FCC designed and introduced a lecture course on forest certification in the frames of the special course “Certification and standardization of nature resources” of MSU soil science faculty.
Currently FCC, jointly with international auditing company SGS, implements the Program of independent validation of timber legality (VLTP) in the Far East.
